Head of Leader’s Office

£59,739 - £63,159

This role will see you working at the very centre of the Council’s work – ensuring highly effective and professional support to the Leader of the Council and other elected members. You will play an involved role in making the best use of the Leader’s time and prioritising commitments. You’ll be a key point of contact for colleagues across the organisation to ensure the Leader is fully briefed on issues, and fostering positive relationships with a wide group of stakeholders will be essential to succeed in the role.

Quality assurance will be an important aspect of your work, including maintaining an overview of actions and outcomes that are being managed on behalf of the Leader. As Policy Advisor to the Leader of the Council, you will be expected to develop an expansive and detailed understanding of the Council priorities, both in terms of immediate issues and longer-term objectives. At all times, you will pay close attention to the principles of good governance, identifying risk, managing sensitive subject matter and ensuring that the political interface adheres to codes, standards, protocols and respect.

It's a role that will suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced working environment, where competing deadlines are the norm - the ability to make astute decisions in terms of priorities and managing the Leaders’s diary will be vital. It’s important that you have a well-informed appreciation of the dynamics of working within a political setting, supported by a good knowledge of public administrative law. We expect that you will already be experienced in providing high level policy support and advice and engaging at a senior political level. Highly developed communication and engagement skills will be a vital attribute to building effective professional relationships within and outside the Council.

Head of Leisure, Arts & Culture

£96,861 - £100,671

Our borough’s Leisure, Arts and Culture provision is integral to making Redbridge a great place to live: supporting people in active lifestyles that enhance quality of life and better health outcomes. Our Head of Leisure & Culture will play an involved role in setting the strategic direction for a wide range of services, working with a diverse group of partners and stakeholders who all play a part in shaping the Redbridge offer.

A major part of the role is fulfilling the role of ‘client’ in relation to our outsourced Leisure and Culture’ provision, that is delivered by Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure. You’ll ensure effective contract management underpins the relationship, bringing clarity to contract objectives and measurement against these. You will also work closely with other strategic partners, such as Arts Council and Sport England and the many other local clubs, providers and volunteers operating in the borough. And, with a number of new leisure facilities in development (including an outdoor lido, a new indoor pool and a climbing experience), you will also lead on the contract management of associated capital development programmes.

It's an opportunity that will suit somebody with highly developed procurement and/or contract management experience, some of which we expect will be within a Leisure or Arts/Culture setting. All of these services attract high levels of political interest and scrutiny, so it’s important that you are accustomed to working within a political setting - reporting on performance measures and ensuring a responsive approach to queries. The ability to build effective partnerships and networks will be vital to affecting change at a system level, ensuring a cohesive strategic direction across different activities in the borough.
