Head of Service: Schools Effectiveness

£89,037 - £92,538

In a borough with a high proportion of maintained schools, this is a role with considerable scope and influence.

Our school improvement offer is excellent and there is much to be positive about: Redbridge’s schools perform well.

You’ll work closely with school leaders at all levels, to promote good practice, share expertise and set clear expectations. Through your improvement team you’ll build on positive partnerships with schools, encouraging rigorous assessment, constructive challenge and collaborative improvement planning.

We’re looking for someone who has a proven track record in school improvement and can demonstrate positive impact on quality of education and outcomes. Safeguarding expertise is also important as we are undertaking a review and redesign of how our schools manage this – ensuring more cohesive working with social care teams and other partners.

This work comes with high levels of attention and scrutiny. So, it’s essential that you understand the political dynamics of leading on such a high-profile area. You will need to be able to build positive relationships with school leaders and governors, building consensus around expectations and momentum behind the practical steps needed to bring about better outcomes for young people.

We expect that you will already have leadership experience within the sector - either in another local authority or in a multi academy trust. You should be well-informed on the current and emerging issues for the sector and have a detailed appreciation of the challenges that each school faces, individually and as part of the wider system.
